About the Owner
Donnail Thomas is the owner and founder of Fresh Fish Market in Columbia, South Carolina. With years of experience in food service, Donnail began selling his own plates in 2022 before taking the leap into restaurant ownership.
His approach has always been simple: serve good food, give people plenty of it, and make the kind of food people want to come back for. Today, that same approach is behind everything served at Fresh Fish Market.
It started with a gut feeling
In 2024, Donnail Thomas wasn’t necessarily looking to open a fish market. Then one day, while riding down Beltline Boulevard, he noticed a space and decided to ask the owner about leasing it.
Somewhere in that conversation came a simple thought: this would be a good spot for a fish market.
So he trusted his gut.
Donnail took on the space, renovated it, and in February 2024, Fresh Fish Market opened its doors.
Since then, what started as a spontaneous idea during a drive down Beltline has grown into one of Columbia’s go-to spots for fresh fish and prepared seafood, building a loyal following both in the community and online.
Sometimes the best ideas aren’t planned. You just know when you’ve found the right one.
